There are multiple industries that use specialty and calibration gases. Some of the industries include colleges, petrochemical and refineries, nuclear power plants, research and development, laboratory and the government as well. Specialty gases in particular could be a single gas or a combination of many components in a cylinder.
They also come in different purity grades which include high, ultra high and research grade. Once the cylinder is filled, the grade is known. These types of gases are not used for applications relating to industrial gas. Specialty gas cylinders are either refillable or disposable. The most commonly used ones are the refillable ones as they have be found to be value for money. They are made of steel or aluminum and stationed in at one particular place for the purpose of refilling.
Disposable Calibration Gas Cylinders:
Calibration gas is better for small spaces and short application cycles. They are a smaller option as opposed to specialty gas cylinders. They hold less gas and are portable as well as easily disposable. These are also made with aluminum or steel. Steel cylinders are heavier when compared to aluminum. Most often steel cylinders are least preferred when compared to aluminum because of the smooth interior surfaces.
There are expert gas suppliers who would be able to give sound advice with regard to which cylinder is suitable. There are valves, fittings and specific regulators to make sure that the impurities are eliminated from the gases. Wrong materials can make the calibration gas unreliable which can prove to be dangerous
